St. Catherine of Alexandria

Maxentius lies with his hands bound at the feet of St. Catherine. The persecutor underfoot is a common visual trope in images of martyred saints. She wears a crown, as is common in her portraits, and holds the wheel and sword that are her attributes. A donor prays to her on the right and holds a scroll that must once have borne the words of his prayer. The church in the background is identical to the one in the portrait of Our Lady of Mercy that is also in the apse.
